Democratic activist and health policy expert rounds out HGA’s growing, bipartisan team
WASHINGTON, DC (November 13, 2018): Horizon Government Affairs is pleased to announce that Delegate-Elect Emily Shetty, Esq., has joined its Washington, D.C., office as Vice President of Advocacy, effective last month.
In her new role, Shetty will lead HGA’s outreach to Democratic hill offices, leveraging her deep networks and insider’s perspective among progressive lawmakers and advocacy organizations to ensure that clients’ priorities remain front and center in the new Congress.
A rising star in Democratic politics, Shetty was elected just last week to serve District 18 in the Maryland House of Delegates. Previously, she served as a Democratic consultant to the Stanton Park Group, where she provided messaging and federal government relations strategy advice to a variety of healthcare clients including patient groups, provider groups and life science organizations. Prior to that, Shetty managed the federal legislative affairs portfolio of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, focusing on ensuring sustainable access for patients to affordable, coordinated, quality care.
Shetty began her career on Capitol Hill as a senior aide to former Congressman Ed Towns (D-NY) and later served as Committee Counsel to Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
“I am excited to join HGA’s winning team and grateful for the opportunity to tailor my work to the clients and progressive causes that I am most passionate about,” said Shetty. “I look forward to working every day on issues that I discussed often in my campaign: improving prescription drug affordability, building on the gains made under the Affordable Care Act, and advancing solutions to the opioid crisis that has devastated too many families.”
Founded in 2007 by Joel White, a former Republican Staff Director of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee who helped write nine laws during his time on Capitol Hill, HGA has added to its bipartisan roster over the last eighteen months. This includes the hire of Chief Economist Jeff Lemieux, previously a senior analyst under Democratic-appointed Congressional Budget Office Director Robert Reischauer, and Vice President of Strategy Allison Wills, a former senior director at the ERISA Industry Committee and health policy advisor at Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies.
HGA Vice President Christine Pollack, a former Vice President at the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) and a veteran of Republican hill offices, joins White in leading HGA’s outreach to Republican members of Congress and staff.
Shetty graduated from Duke University with a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and a Certificate in Markets & Management. She then earned her J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. Shetty is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association.
