Horizon’s Brett Meeks spoke with Inside Telehealth about recent attempts by the FTC to regulate health data.
Federal agencies — like the FTC — attempting to protect sensitive health data through fines and proposed regulations could complicate the push for federal privacy legislation, according to Brett Meeks, vice president at Horizon Government Affairs.
But any regulatory action has the potential to influence proposed data legislation. Meeks said lawmakers opposed to the way the FTC has been functioning under FTC Director Linda Khan’s leadership may be less likely to vote for legislation like ADPPA that would give FTC more authority and resources.
“All of this activity is another reason we haven’t seen a draft bill come out because there’s so many questions remaining,” Meeks said. “The ground is changing under our feet literally every day.”
